Looking Ahead

By

“Do not remember the former things,
nor consider the things of old.
Behold, I will do a new thing
now it shall spring forth
shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert.”  Isaiah 43:18-19

A great deal happened in 2014 at Son Valley Ranch!  A major project was completed by adding a bathroom in the barn.  Bandit and Jackson passed away, and Crunch and Chayah were adopted.  More than fifty children from all different backgrounds came to the ranch: many taking their very first horse rides, and all hearing God’s plans of hope for their lives.  We also said goodbye to Jon Bufkin, a founding board member and husband to Kelsey, after his struggle with oral cancer.  His example of walking with Jesus through his final days will mark us forever.

Thank you to so many dear friends who have donated to SVR in memory of Jon.  We are looking forward to 2015 with tremendous anticipation.  We have six ranch days scheduled for a total of about 75 kids that can come.  Our circle of volunteers continue to grow as God brings new faces into our lives who are committed to helping.

The above verses seem especially appropriate for SVR this year.  When examined with the original Hebrew meanings, they take on even greater significance.  Take a look:

“Behold, I will do a new (“rebuild, fresh new thing”) thing.
now it shall spring (“cause to grow again”) forth
Shall you not know (ascertain by seeing”) it?
I will even make a road (“course of life, journey”) in the wilderness (“pasture, open field in the south”)
and rivers (“like Euphrates”) in the desert (“of desolation”)

Here’s our prayer for 2015:  Dear God, take the desolate places in our life and bring new growth to them.  Revive those dead places.  Help us to focus on growing new things, rather than looking back on the old.  We thank you for what you did in 2014 in us and through SVR, and now we look ahead to this year.  We ask you to do a fresh, new thing.  The children who come will have so many devastating places in their lives; use us and this place to share your light, your hope, your presence, and your plans with them.  Remove any obstacles standing in their way of coming.  We thank you in advance for the new things you will do.  All that we have is yours.  We lay this year down at your feet.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
